- ABOUT THE FARM:
- Sleepy Creek meanders around three
sides of The Gatehouse's 24 acres and is
suitable for wading. If the water is
higher, bobbing along in a tube on
Sleepy Creek makes for a pleasant
afternoon. A path runs alongside the
creek the length of the farm. Sleepy
Creek is host to harparella, a
near-extinct plant that grows only in
clean water.
- Deer, chipmunks, squirrels, rabbits,
and turtles live on the farm and we have
even seen a bear. A groundhog family
lives under the barn. In the spring,
look for babies in the meadow.
- Birds include turkeys, grouse,
hawks, owls, kingfishers, most of the
usual (cardinals, blue jays, sparrows,
tufted titmouse, black-capped
chickadees), and an occasional warbler,
rose-breasted grosbeak, killdeer, as
well as a lost goose or duck. Who knows
what you might add to your life list.
- There's also a wonderful hill for
sledding if the weather cooperates.
- All Properties Are Non-Smoking!
